This however just might get you around the weight issue. Overbuilding won’t be a big problem, but you definitely need to keep it in mind when trying to balance longer and larger structures. In some situations, a bridge with less support girders, to reduce the weight, might be beneficial, though that’s mainly in situations where you have both above and below supports. Overbuilding bridges can be a problem, especially if there are few connection points to distribute the weight to. Now I did say you can feel comfortable adding plenty of girders, but weight is an important factor. You do have to factor in stress points and uneven weight, but you can feel fairly comfortable adding a lot of support girders in the name of stability. You’ll come across many instances where you’ll have odd connection points and may struggle to get a bridge in place, but triangular supports along the top or bottom (or maybe both) will help bridges stay in place, even in odd positions. A straight bridge with just a couple of overhead connection points can hold steady if you have triangular girder shapes to support the bridge along its length. Triangle shapes will be your go-to method of strengthening your structures. You can use cables to hang your bridge on distant connection points too, or even arch your like a rounded doorway (yes, an archway) to enhance its strength. To start strengthening your bridges, you’ll need to form girders around your bridges to act as supports, connecting your bridge and distributing the weight to other connection points, if possible. Stretch girders and string them together to form basic bridges, and tap them to make them roads your vehicles can cross. I mean, the game is called Bridge Constructor Portal, so it’s no surprise you’ll be building bridges, but ensuring your structures are going to handle one vehicle, or even a whole convoy, is going to require work. Read through our advice and you’ll be well prepared for the road ahead, but if you’re in doubt, check the Best Practices page in the menu.įor more advice on thinking with Portals, check out our guide. You’ll be building a variety of bridges and ramps in Bridge Constructor Portal, so you’ll need to be aware of weights, supports, arches and more in order to get through these test chambers. I want more of this kind of thing in 2018.So you’re already a Portal pro, huh? Well that’s good, but how are you with building bridges? If you’re not the best, then welcome to Bridge Building 101, where we’ll run you through how to get from A to B. We’ve already had Mario + Rabbids this year and now Bridge Constructor Portal. It’s also a reminder that mashups and crossovers are fun and more games should do them. This is a smart evolution of the Bridge Constructor genre. from Portal - is your guide and tormentor once again. The world takes on the aesthetic of an Aperture Science “pocket universe,” and GLaDOS - the villainous A.I. You are building bridges for Aperture Science, the amoral science-technology conglomerate from the Half-Life universe and the creators of the portal gun. Of course, ClockStone did bring in plenty of Portal flavor. That’s a solid, maybe timeless, gameplay loop, and Bridge Constructor Portal nails it. I enjoy the process of encountering a new stage and all of its challenges, figuring out what I have to do, and then building absurd rigs to execute on my ideas. This setup makes the game a more complex version of Bridge Constructor rather than a variation on Portal, but that’s not a bad thing. Instead, those come integrated into the level when you start, and you just need to design ramps and roadways to take advantage of those helpful rips in the fabric of the universe. Unlike Valve’s Portal and Portal 2, you don’t get a gun or choose where to create the entrance and exit doorways through spacetime. But the obstacles in your way often make it impossible for a standard bridge to work, and that’s where the portals come in. Your goal is to rig up strong enough contraptions to enable a forklift (or a convoy of forklifts at a higher difficulty) to get to their goal. As the name suggests, it smushes together the structural-assembly mechanics of Bridge Constructor with the wormhole action of Portal. That last one is a game I’ve played for years, and now developer ClockStone and publisher Headup Games have given me a reason to build even more bridges with an entirely new experience that expands the gameplay possibilities by bringing in concepts from Valve’s Portal puzzler.īridge Constructor Portal is out now for $10 on Steam (where I played it). I don’t know when it happened, but I’ve stopped using my phone to play games … well, unless they are PC games, Terrible Chess, or Bridge Constructor. Missed the GamesBeat Summit excitement? Up until now I’ve not worked out a convenient place to place the script so that I can read from it without taking my eyes off the camera. It also saves time in the edit because I don’t have to cut out fillers like “erms” and “ers” or gazing off into the distance while I think of the next thing to say. Nowadays I tend to write scripts for my videos because by doing so I avoid forgetting key bits of information and I can put it across more concisely than when I make it up “on the hoof”. These are perfect for YouTubers like myself. In the past they used paper scripts so more clunky machinery was needed to use it, but with digitization and increased consumer demand from content creators you can now get compact units like the TMP100, which are designed for use with tablets and smartphones and a variety of prompting apps. It is worth noting that American Express Platinum Cardholders can choose some very basic menu items for free. Every item on the menu is available for purchase. This might come as a surprise to frequent visitors of the American Express Centurion Lounges in the United States but the food offered at The Centurion Lounge Mexico City isn’t included. Cash-Only For Food Purchased in the American Express Centurion Lounge Still a little hungry and craving some flan, I gestured towards a waiter and ordered the flan as well as a cappuccino. I sat down, took a few deep breaths, unwinded, and plugged my devices in to charge them.įirst, I made my way up to the bar for a glass of champagne. I took a seat near a row of comfortable booths that were set back into the wall. I decided I wouldn’t take any photos and would mind my own business during my visit so I knew I didn’t have anything to worry about. When I checked in, the agents began communicating via their walkie-talkies and gesturing towards me. None of the other lounges served champagne and some of the other lounges were closing their doors for the night. Returning to the American Express Centurion Lounge Mexico CityĪfter my visit to the Aeromexico lounge, I returned to the American Express lounge with the sole purpose of getting a glass of champagne. Frustrated and worried I might end up being escorted out of the lounge by security, I left the lounge to check out the Aeromexico Salon Premier. I was able to get some pictures of my overpriced dinner (yeah, this Centurion Lounge charges for food) and the dining area but when I left my table to explore the lounge and take photos, I was cornered by a concierge team member in the back of the spa area.Īt this time I remained in the quiet and secluded part of the lounge to complete a call to American Express customer service who was extremely apologetic and understanding After my call to customer service, I spoke to the manager/supervisor on duty who sided with his employees. I don’t want to make this post a rant about the legality of taking photos in an airline lounge but this was a reoccurring issue throughout my visit. Cornered By Lounge Staff in the Spa Area of The Centurion Lounge Mexico City She did not inform me of any of the amenities in the lounge and instead handed me a Platinum drink coupon and pointed toward my entrance. Finally, as I was leaving the check-in desk, she gave me her name. I asked for her name but she would not give it to me. She responded, “You just try that.” She took my card, passport, and boarding pass and kept to herself for the remainder of check-in. I can’t take pictures of you or guests but I can photograph the lounge.” Tired and not in the mood to be barked at by an unhappy lounge attendant I responded, “No that’s not actually a policy. As I approached the agent, the agent looked up at me and in a confrontation tone said to me, “No pictures, no pictures, there are no pictures allowed.”įully aware that this was in fact not a stated policy online or on any placard around the lounge, I sort of chuckled. The American Express logo at check-in Mexico City T2Īs I lowered my camera from my eye, I noticed I was next in line for check-in. Per my own policy and is typically the policy of airlines, hotels, and lounges, I never take photos of employees or other guests. Upon checking in, I decided to snap a few photos of the American Express logo backlit behind the check-in desk. If you follow me on Twitter, you might have seen a few Tweets about my experience at the lounge. An Awful First Impression at The Centurion Lounge MEX T2 The entrance to the lounge was certainly not the best first impression. This was after I had to lug my bags up the steep staircase. I didn’t realize that there was an elevator to the lounge until much later in the evening. It’s somewhat easy to miss as there’s a poorly marked staircase and no easily accessible elevator. The American Express Centurion Lounge Terminal 2 at Mexico City International Airport is located between the HSBC Premier Lounge and the Aeromexico Salon Premier on the third level of the terminal. I decided to visit the American Express Centurion Lounge first as it had recently been renovated, features an extensive drink menu, and offers guest a free spa service. I opened LoungeBuddy ( Promo Code: xeDiiDxI3q) on my phone to refresh my memory to which lounges I could access. Its scientific name derives from the Greek words stego, which means “covered” and stoma, which means “mouth.” Except for Australia, which is listed as Least Concern, the Endangered species list is maintained by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (U.N.). Human activities such as the destruction of coral reef habitat, dynamiting, and poisoning are threatening zebra sharks in their natural habitat. Most of their territory is used by commercial fishermen as catch bycatch. Men are 1.5 to 1.8 meters (5 to 5.9 feet) tall, while women are 1.5 to 1.8 meters (5 to 5.9 feet). Because it is nocturnal, the species spends the majority of its day lying motionless on the sea floor. Adult zebra sharks have five longitudinal ridges on their cylindrical-shaped bodies, a low caudal fin that is nearly half their body length, and dark spots on their pale skin. One of the few shark species that can reproduce without mating is the zebra shark. There have been only a few provoked attacks, the only one of which involved a diver who pulled his tail to try to ride them. Humans are not at risk because zebra sharks are docile and slow-moving. Their meat is available at supermarkets as both fresh and salt-dried, and it is also used in fishmeal. Humans are among the most dangerous threats to zebra sharks in the same way that other sharks are. The eggs of these sharks hatch in 20 to 30 centimeters (6.9 to 14 inches) long, and they are sometimes mistaken for baby bullhead sharks with yellow stripes on their brown skin.Īdult zebra sharks, on the other hand, are typically preyed upon by only a few predators, including some large shark species. Humans pose the greatest threat to zebra sharks in the same way that they do to other sharks.īaby zebra sharks, also known as pups, are born in the wild and appear to be unlike anything else on the planet. The majority of bites are caused by divers grabbing on to their tails or attempting to ride them.Ī zebra shark is not aggressive, and it has few predators other than larger shark species that may be able to catch one in its jaws. A female can produce up to 50 eggs per month, which means that they are oviparous and can produce up to 50 eggs per month. Crab, mollusk, small bony fish, and shrimp are among the prey items that they prefer to eat. Sharks can live for up to 35 years on average. Adults’ height ranges from 2 to 3.5 meters (6.5 to 11 feet) and weight ranges from 20 to 30 kilograms (44 to 66 pounds). In this article, we will explore the origins of the zebra shark and discuss the factors that have helped them to survive and thrive in the oceans of the world.Ī Zebra Shark, also known as the Leopard Shark or Stegostoma Fasciatum, is a fascinating shark to observe. While it may seem as if this species of shark has just appeared out of nowhere, they actually have a long evolutionary history and are believed to have been around for millions of years. It is recognisable by its stripes and spotted pattern, which give it a zebra-like appearance. There is evidence that its numbers are dwindling. The zebra shark (Stegostoma fasciatum) is a fascinating species of shark that is found in tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region. The World Conservation Union has assessed this species as Vulnerable worldwide, as it is taken by commercial fisheries across most of its range (except off Australia) for meat, fins, and liver oil. Innocuous to humans and hardy in captivity, zebra sharks are popular subjects of ecotourism dives and public aquaria. The zebra shark is oviparous: females produce several dozen large egg capsules, which they anchor to underwater structures via adhesive tendrils. Though solitary for most of the year, they form large seasonal aggregations. At night, they actively hunt for molluscs, crustaceans, small bony fishes, and possibly sea snakes inside holes and crevices in the reef. Zebra sharks are nocturnal and spend most of the day resting motionless on the sea floor. This species attains a length of 2.5 m (8.2 ft). Young zebra sharks under 50–90 cm (20–35 in) long have a completely different pattern, consisting of light vertical stripes on a brown background, and lack the ridges. Adult zebra sharks are distinctive in appearance, with five longitudinal ridges on a cylindrical body, a low caudal fin comprising nearly half the total length, and a pattern of dark spots on a pale background. It is found throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific, frequenting coral reefs and sandy flats to a depth of 62 m (210 ft). Sometimes it is also called Leopard shark. The zebra shark (Stegostoma fasciatum or varium) is a species of carpet shark and the sole member of the family Stegostomatidae. |
